Xbox 360 games for the start of 2012

2012 is coming in less than a week time and there are a lot of awesome games in the market that are worth to play. A lot of the games that will be mentioned have received high reviews from professionals as well as the casual gamers.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This particular game has one line that is quite popular amongst 9gaggers which is “I used to be an X, until I took an arrow to the knee”. Jokes aside, this game is considered one of the best games ever created with GameSpot giving it 9.0 out of 10 while Metacritic gave it 96. It is a highly adventurous game that will leave the gamers for more.

Grand Theft Auto IV

This may be one of the few games that has received a perfect 10 from GameSpot and a 98 from Metacritic. Its multiplayer mode allows up to 16 players to play in this expansive city. The story on the other hand is just superb and is definitely recommended for all mature gamers.

Battlefield 3

This particular game has been competing with Call of Duty and for good reasons as well. Although the game is of similar genre, the storyline and the gameplay are somewhat different. It is to no wonder that each of these games have their own fanboys.

Gameloft to put almost all of its games for 99 cents

First, it was EA Games that decided to put a wide range of its games for only 99 cents for the holidays and it is about time other game publishers join the bandwagon. The French company Gameloft which is popular with games such as Asphalt and a few others decided that it too could sell its games for 99 cents. In fact, Gameloft decided to sell all of its games to only 99 cents.

Some noteworthy games that will be put on sale include the Asphalt 6, N.O.V.A, Order & Chaos, Adventures of TinTin and many more. However, make sure that the devices are compatible before you decide to go on a spending spree. Unlike the iOS devices, Android devices face a lot more incompatibility issues partly due to the difference in hardware inside different Android devices.

Don’t go rushing into the spending spree just yet because this promotion will only start at 29th December 2011 at 10.00AM PST until 5th January 2012, 10.00AM PST. Should anyone go for it? Definitely! Gameloft games are certainly one of the best in the market and some of the reason on which not many people buy it is that it may cost a lot especially when it is on an Open Source (read: free) operating system.

PlayStation3 Move (Motion Controllers)

Sony’s new controller, PlayStation Move or PlayStation3 Move Controller which was expected to release on 1st September is now expected to release in July. A promotion brochure of a gaming retailer just revealed the new release date of Sony PlayStation Move Controller.

The release date was revealed by the BT Games brochure.

All the game addicts are anxiously waiting for the release of this all new power-packed motion controller, as always Sony is expecting a good feedback from all the gamers and it is believed that PlayStation Move Controllers (motion controllers) won’t disappoint the new generation gamers.

This might be the next big thing from Sony (Fingers Crossed).

Nintendo Wii U

The next generation of the Wii console, the Nintendo Wii U, has been showcased at the recent E3 show. The controller integrates a touch screen, gyroscope, accelerometer, camera, and motion detection. It’s a very strange controller and it seems a bit odd to switch between looking at your nice, large television and your small little controller. But, just as many were unsure of the extra effort swinging around a Wii controller, it was still a huge success for Nintendo and a hit among casual gamers.

The Wii U
is expected to be released sometime late 2012. So we’ll keep an eye on any further updates to Nintendo’s latest incarnation. What do you think? Will this be a hit for Nintendo or a just a sad imitation of the Wii?

Save PlayStation games to the cloud

This time Sony has decided to utilize all the web resources and now they have added a feature by using which you may save your PlayStation 3 games to the cloud. Cloud here doesn’t mean the sky one. Cloud is a web hosting service which is offered from a network of servers that are connected to one another. These server can be located anywhere in the world like One in New Delhi and other in New York. Now a days cloud hosting is widely in use by all the big websites. It protects them from many DDOS attacks and also offers best uptime.

This is a very nice feature introduced by Sony in its new PlayStation 3 and by using you can save all your running game data to their server. Now you will not loose any unsaved games and you can show off your friends that you have completed X Level of blah blah game.

But this service is not free, you have to pay and it is only available to the PlayStation Plus subscribers. You need to have a WiFi connection to connect to this service.

Lets talk about PS3 features. It has a built-in WiFi and 160GB to 320GB Hard Disk storage varies with model(equivalent to PC hard drive). That’s not all. You can play Blu-Ray Disc too and it offers 3D video audio quality.

So what you can do with 320GB space? You may store

  • 2,500 rich, immersive games
  • Over 190 of your favorite movies
  • 51,200 photos capturing your most cherished memories
  • 73,000 songs for you to rock out to

That’s pretty enough. PS3 is priced at $349.99 MSRP (Manufacturer’s suggested retail price). Its accessories are really awesome. This gaming console has something really special in it.

Make sure you have updated to new Firmware version 3.6 and a Plus subscriber to utilize cloud saving feature.

Xbox Kinect SDK

When the Xbox Kinect first came out it was an awe-inspiring device that made record sales. Selling 8 million in just 60 days topped the charts and put it at the

pinnacle of total sales for a single electronic device. With features that catered to a wide variety of users, the Kinect got people up off their feet and allowed them to use the completely hands free technology for a variety of uses.

With their catchy “You are the controller” slogan, Kinect was referring to its capabilities to utilize voice commands and hands free controls to navigate. Now, however, you have the ability to not only be the controller, but the developer. With the new Kinect SDK (Software Developer Kit) you are only limited by your imagination.

This software is still in the beta stages, but it is jam-packed full of goodies. It can only be run on a computer that has Windows 7, but upgrading to a newer computer may be well worth it. This free software has code walkthroughs that will teach you how to program the Kinect to do a variety of things such as recognize voice commands, record audio, monitor movements, and so much more! You don’t have to be a genius to create your own Kinect program, in fact you don’t even have to know how to code, this software comes complete with easy to use tutorials so that anyone can learn.

Numerous applications have already been designed for the Xbox Kinect, but millions more are yet to be discovered. With the power now in the consumer’s hands, who knows what brilliant and innovative ideas will emerge with the release of this software.

Microsoft integrating Xbox into Windows 8?

For those of you who have wanted to play your favorite Xbox 360 games on your PC but didn’t want to have to bother with setting up an emulator, you may be in luck!

The upcoming Windows 8 OS is rumored to allow you to play Xbox 360 games on your laptops and desktops! This will be an amazing leap for both of these companies and will surely boost sales for each. There is no word yet if there will be any additional hardware installations needed for your computer to be able to run these games, but I for one am ecstatic about this possible union!

While there are numerous games for the Xbox available for the PC as well, not all of them are, and for many gamers they are limited to their stationary consoles rather than being able to enjoy the freedom of a laptop and multifunctional ability of your desktop computer.

With the new Xbox console hopefully being presented at the next E3 conference, we may see this magical union being announced sometime afterwards as the sales for that console slow down.

The future brings many good tidings!

Microsoft updates Xbox 360 Dashboard, incorporates Metro UI design

Metro UI which is now available on Windows Phone 7 and in the developer release of Windows 8 is Microsoft newest approach of marketing its products. The Metro UI can be considered clean and in most cases, easy to use. In fact, Microsoft seems to be very happy with the Metro UI that it is adding it to its other successful product, the Xbox 360.

As expected, the UI on the new Xbox 360 dashboard is based on tiles as well as the menu available at the top of the screen. Suffice to say it is a very clean interface that looks futuristic as one might say. Users will also notice that the dashboard is a tad faster as compared as the old one and getting from one section to the other is a breeze as well.

In addition to that, the new dashboard also incorporates Kinect which is its sound and motion detector add-on. Users can use hand gestures to change pages or if that is too troublesome, they can also command the Xbox to do it as well. It is definitely a great improvement over the old Kinect hub.

The new dashboard is due to be released tomorrow (6 December 2011) and is definitely a must have for all Xbox 360 users.

Nintendo is Going to Launch New 3DS Games in 2012

Nintendo is all set to launch 3 new 3DS games in the first quarter of 2012 starring Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelation and re-imagining of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake eater.

Bunch of New 3DS Games

Interestingly, the most exciting launch is going to be is the Kid Icarus which will hit the stores on March 23. Aside these 3 games, Nintendo will unveil a bunch of downloadable games too including Mighty Switch Force, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Mutant Mudds, Dillon’s Rolling Western and the VVVVVV. The icing on the cake is; company is soon going to launch a 3DS accessory with the name “Circle Pad Pro” which is a control stick and can make your gaming experience even more fun! You can grab the grab online and in stores on Feb 7 and it will come with a pricing tab of $19.99. There is a lot in store for you all!

Nitendo’s Fate

Mario Party 9 is set to hit the markets on March 11, while PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond will remind you of Pikachu and it will be released on Feb 27. Undoubtedly, this year has been highly disappointing for Nintendo from the launch of its 3DS gadget to losing around $1 billion. Let’s hope the upcoming releases will contribute towards something good for Nintendo.

Modern Warfare 3 loses top spot to Skyrim in game charts

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has finally been bumped down to second spot after it was revealed that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now top of the UK all-platform games chart.

Despite having been given the fairly modest title of biggest entertainment launch in history the latest in the Call of Duty series has, after a very respectable four-weeks, been knocked off the top spot with Just Dance 3 and FIFA 12 in close contest at third and fourth place.

Sitting comfortably at fifth place is Assassin's Creed: Revelations while below that is Battlefield 3 and the likes of Saints Row: The Third and Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception.

The real question will be whether The Elder Scrolls can then hold onto this title for Christmas or whether Call of Duty will make a reccurence and grab the title of Christmas no.1.

Xbox Live- Is it going to challenge the Cable Box?

Just recently, Microsoft has updated its Xbox Live online entertainment service with which all the subscribers will be able to watch mainstream television programming from the Xbox 360 console itself.

The Icing on the Cake

The icing on the cake is; the new update gives you the power to search for your favorite shows using hand gestures as well as voice commands if you have the Kinect peripheral for the Xbox. Interestingly, Microsoft will be adding a lot more to this service including Verizon FiOS, HBO, and Comcast’s Xfinity. It is important to note that the subscribers will have to pay their cable providers to get channels though the Xbox and along with that; they will be required to pay $60 a year which is the amount set by Microsoft for a premier membership.

Pros and Cons

Like everything in this world has its own share of pros as well as cons, likewise; the Xbox Console gadget cannot give the viewers all that they get through their cable boxes because content rights for some shows have to be negotiated before they can be streamed to the Xbox console.

The Last of Us PS3 exclusive coming to VGA's 2011

New screenshots have appeared for the game The Last of Us, a title shrouded in so much mystery it would put even an episode of Lost to shame.

This comes after a microsite for the game was found with two cryptic trailers and the information that it would be a PS3 exclusive and almost certainly would be unveiled at Spike TV's Video Game Awards 2011.

Epic Games to bring out new title..

Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bliszinski has appeared on a Spike TV video to confirm that Epic Games will be announcing a completely new game marking a move in direction from Gears of War and Infinity Blade.

While it's not yet known what this game will be it was certainly expected that the studio would move on to a new project after finishing the phenomenally successful Gears of War series.
This all comes after a billboard in New York's Times Square announced what the Video Games Award 2011 was calling an 'Exclusive you won't believe' for the Sony PS3 suggesting a host of titles that could be coming soon.

Fans of the flingable feathery fowls can enjoy 25 Winter Wonderland-themed levels over the Christmas period, as well as a special festive challenge on December 5th.

“The holiday season is all about giving back and giving thanks, and this year we wanted to thank our millions of fans by giving them some great Angry Birds experiences,” said Rovio’s CMO, Peter Vesterbacka. “Not only are they receiving 25 new levels in our Advent game, but they’re also getting a chance to win the best Samsung products around and participate in a fun advent challenge.”

YH Lee, SVP of Global Marketing at Samsung Mobile Communications Business was also positive about the collaboration, saying, “It’s so good to team up with Rovio again. Samsung has had a brilliant year and our Galaxy devices are popular all over the world, so to be able to launch a holiday experience inside the most popular mobile game in the world, is awesome!"

New PES 2012 issue patch confirmed

Pro Evolution Soccer developer Konami has outed details on a new PES 2012 update for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC titles with the software patch to fix a number of bugs in the title.

Looking to bring the flailing football sim in line with arch rival and once again runaway victor of the best football title of the year crown FIFA 12, Konami has confirmed that it will issue a number of fixes for the core consoles in the coming days with issues of freezing to be eliminated and improvements made to goalkeepers’ handling abilities.

PES 2012 Updates

Acting in response to fan feedback the latest PES 2012 update is to come as the Japanese developer looks to capitalise on the pre-Christmas sales rush.

"We've also added the option to search for opponents based on their pass support settings, which will replace Friendly Match or Player Match (depending on version) in Quick Match mode," said Konami’s European PES team leader Jon Murphy.

In addition, the BBFC only mentioned the Xbox 360 in connection with the game, although it is hoped that it will also land on the PS3 in February. It's expected to contain all the DLC content so far.

Published by Warners Bros, Mortal Kombat 9 was released in April 2011 and sold three million copies as of September 2011.

Angry Birds Cookbook and Robin Williams Siri

We have another look at some of the weirder stories that graced the internet over the past 7 days that you probably didn’t see.

Angry Birds Cookbook
While most of us search for cookbooks by the likes of our favourite celebrity chefs Rovio Entertainment, creators of 'Angry Birds' has unleashed a cookbook of their very own. Call it crazy or just clever marketing, only the number of sales will tell. Angry birds have racked up quite a fan base and may well become a huge hit. Watch out Gordon Ramsey, looks as if there'san angrier chef than you in town.

Nokia N8 Shooting Feature film
At some point or another we have all used our mobile phones to do some form of amateur filming. Imagine shooting a feature film? Well that is what a team of independent directors have done using the Nokia N8. They want the film to appear in theaters across America and it looks like they might just get their wish.

Nasa puts a washing machine in space
Who ever thought that space cowboys didn't change their underwear? It’s not really something that one thinks about, but apparently NASA has commissioned a small disinfectant company UMPQUA to create a washing machine so that astronauts can wash their dirty smalls while in space.

Clever Glasses
In Japan Professor Kuniyoshi took years to perfect the ultimate pair of glasses, which according to the grapevine allows you to find item’s that you have lost. You tell the glasses what’s missing and it will play into your eye the last time you saw the item. I think somebody has been watching too much Terminator. What we want to know is, what happens when you lose the glasses?

£12,000 Telephone Number
Usually when one goes to purchase a mobile phone, you don’t pay more for the number than you do your handset. A mobile telephone number in Bahrain is on sale for $19,000 around £12,135, because of, none other than err the aesthetics. Maybe if the buyer puts the numbers on the lottery they can win the money back.

Defibrillator Toaster
Defibrillators are used to revive people right? Well it seems that an industrial designer has came up with a crazy idea to make toast using one of these things. I wonder if they have a similar device if your steak is too rare?

Star Wars Han Solo Carbonite Chocolate Bar

We sort of already resent ourselves for posting on this. Needless to say, we are, and as a result we’ve got mixed emotions. That said, what makes Han Solo so attractive when he is encased in Carbonite? It’s a question we’ve long pondered. To make matters more complicated, he is now frozen in “gourmet” dark chocolate.

So why would you get this? Not for yourself. It’s definitely a stocking stuffer or gag gift for any Star Wars fan, big or small. Before you buy, though, keep in mind it’s damn expensive for a chocolate bar – probably a reflection of licensing costs to Lucas. Doesn’t the man already have enough money?

If you wanna spend your money a bit more effectively you could always opt for the Han Solo USB Flash Drive with the Carbonite case.

Battlefield 3 DLC release date set for December 6th

Following the Battlefield 3 release date back in October developer DICE has confirmed that it is to launch the first Battlefield 3 DLC next week.

Entitled ‘Back to Karkand’ the opening Battlefield 3 downloadable content pack has been confirmed exclusively for the Sony PS3 at present with an initial Battlefield 3 release date set for December 6th.

Battlefield 3 DLC Content

Bring a host of new content to EA’s record breaking first person shooter, the Back to Karkand extension will see four classic Battlefield maps land alongside five new dog tags, five all new achievements and trophies and three new vehicles.

Whilst former maps Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula will supply the new areas to roam, a desert patrol vehicle, BTR-90 armoured personnel carrier and F-35B STOVL jet fighter will take care of the incoming transportation options.

Despite DICE failing to confirmed the Battlefield 3 DLC release date for PC and Xbox 360 gamers, a number of reports have suggested that based on past titles these iterations will land one week later, just in time for the Christmas period on December 13th.

Are you a Battlefield 3 fan ahead of Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 offering, will you be looking to snap up the imminent DLC release? Let us know via the comments box below.

3D review : Battlefield 3

3D technology

You don’t have to spend a fortune on a new PC to run Battlefield 3 in 3D… but it helps. NVIDIA’s new 3D Vision 2 kit is actually relatively cheap at £149 for pair of active shutter glasses and an IR receiver. The glasses are bigger, more comfortable and block out more back ground ambient light. But the deal clincher is hooking the glasses up with a flat panel that supports the new super-bright Lightboost tech.

We used the 27-inch Asus VG278H, which costs £565, has a HD LED display, a 120Hz refresh rate to cope with NVIDIA’s 3D tech and a speedy 2ms response time. It also has a 3D HDMI 1.4 input and a Dual-link DVI input.

We were lucky enough to have an NVIDIA white box system with 6GB, Intel’s flagship core i7 processor and with two GeForce GTX 580 cards hooked up in SLI mode.

3D performance

The legacy of being built in a PC means Battlefield 3 has more settings than you could shake a stick at. That means, you can still play in 3D on a lower specced system by turning down one of the many graphical bells and whistles in the options menu.

As we said, we were lucky to go to war on a brilliant system and gamed in 3D with everything set on ultra. 3D can absolutely kill a system. Jargon aside, in effect you are running the game twice simultaneously when you press the CRTL then T button so it will take out lesser PCs. But we managed to maintain over 48FPS for smooth HD playback and that’s on servers with 64 players running about at the same time. The only time we suffered any staccato playback was a server issue rather than a problem with the hardware.

Obviously the 3D is given an incredible boost by playing with the effects setting on ultra because the added debris, smoke and explosions are rendered with much more dimensional panache. With the best audio we’ve heard in any title this year, the effect can be disorientating – in a good way. We also played with the 3D slider at fill tilt and had no headaches to report after long sessions. We did experience minimal ghosting but that was easily rectified by turning the 3D down and we can vouch that the Lightboost tech is a big winning point for NVIDIA.

Verdict

As a game, Battlefield 3 didn't get five out of five stars in our review. There were too many issues with the weaker single player campaign and too many problems as a console venture. However, as a 3D PC experience it is an unqualified succeess and a five star product.

Now, with an added dimension, we’re saying you haven’t played Battlefield 3 unless you’ve played Battlefield 3 in 3D on a PC
