PC factory overclocks their custom PCs to 5.7GHz

If you are a gamer than chances are you would know about Origin PC. They sell some of the best custom PCs in the United States and they also offer a lifetime technical support on which not many manufacturers practice this. Origin PC boasts of having a factory overclock PC running at clocks up to 5.2GHz. However, they have increased the bar as it is now possible to get a 5.7GHz computer straight from the company.

Origin PC says this amazing feat was made possible on an i7 2700K system which uses a ‘Phase Change’ cooling system. This system cools down the processor to as low as -40 degree Celcius. Suffice to say that this is a very cold system on which the processor will be operating on. In addition to the amazingly overclocked CPU, it is also possible to get a set of NVIDIA GTX 580 cards in a 4-way SLI. The performance in this computer will be absolutely stunning.

Expect to pay a hefty price for this set of behemoth. Just to get a grasp of how much it will potentially cost, their The Big O system which is one amazing desktop is available at a price of $17,000. Those that are interested should definitely need some pretty big pockets.

Memo Touch Tablet to Help Senior Citizens with Memory Loss Issues

There are plenty of new gadgets of all types, shapes and sizes, coming into the market on an everyday basis. While some of them are fancy gadgets to attract and please the consumer, there are others that are actually designed to help people challenged in some way or the other. The latest touch tablet, Memo, is one such gadget, designed to help senior citizens suffering from short-term memory loss. This nifty little device helps them effectively deal with their problem and retain their peace of mind and independence, in spite of their medical condition.

This unique software is designed to operate on an Android tablet and enables the kin of the patient to set the device, so as to remind their elders of everyday tasks and activities. Not only that, they can also remotely monitor the senior citizens’ activity levels, so as to make sure they are doing fine.

Memo does not need any prior computer or mobile gadget experience. Simple to use, elders can learn to operate it within no time at all. Family members can remotely manage the information displayed on this tablet, also adding reminders and so on, logging on from wherever they can access the Internet.

Short-term memory loss is nowadays becoming an increasingly common condition in the United States. This is where gadgets like the Memo can be of great use to both elders and their caregivers. The latter can help them manage their day-to-day activities; remind them of the meals and medication to be taken at specific times; and also monitor their elders throughout the day, without having to stop their own office and other routines.

Memo gives the user a variety of options to choose from, right from day/date displays, everyday reminders, weather info, phonebook, a help button to send messages and emails to the caregiver if necessary, and so on.

Family members can also send their elders messages, share photographs with them and continue to remain online when they are not at home. This would go a long way in reassuring elders that they are in safe hands and would be taken complete care of.

The idea and concept of Memo has evolved as a result of the joint effort of both clinical gerontologists and researchers. Memo, which has been in beta stage since January this year, is all ready to take the market by storm. Currently, this software operates on an Archos 101 10-inch tablet, running the Android OS. In order to operate it, the user must have an Internet connection, preferably, a wireless Internet connection for the elder concerned. Since Memo overrides the current programs running on the tablet, the user will not have to endlessly search the tablet in order to access this particular app.

In case you are not completely satisfied with the Memo, you can return it within 3 months, as far it is not damaged in some way. Within this timeframe, it can also be converted into the original tablet, running the Android OS. In such a case, the balance Web subscription fee will also be refunded to you.

Windows Phone 7 messaging can be rendered useless through a bug

What is a phone without a messaging system? Apparently that may happen on Windows Phone 7 devices as the HTC Mozart, Radar or any other WP7 phones. According to WinRumors, whenever a Windows Phone 7 device receives a string of characters, this problem will happen. The device will lock itself and then reboots. When this happens, the phone’s messaging system cannot be used at all.

The problem doesn’t just limit to the messaging system. WinRumors also added that if a user has his or her friends’ live tiles pinned on the home screen, then chances are, the problem will also occur. The solution to this particular problem is by quickly removing the pinned tiles before the device hangs up and reboots once again. Basically, Microsoft has created a game where time is essential.

As of date, there are no fixes available but those that would want to get total control of their phone’s messaging system again need to hard reset their device. That is the only way on which has been proven to work. However, this solution is anything but convenient for the user especially if there aren’t any backup done on the device. It should also be noted that SMS issues are also present on iOS and Android devices although little is known about the level of seriousness as compared with this particular bug that is clouding the Windows Phone 7

Sure, a lot of people have heard about Full HD videos but have you heard about 4K videos? 4K is a format unfamiliar to many simply because there are little to no playback devices capable of rendering a 4K video due to its high resolution. However, that does not stop Canon to create a DSLR with 4K recording capability.

Currently, the DSLR is still in its prototype which means that the time on which it will be released is still unknown but based on the press release by Canon, we managed to get some technical specifications of the new DSLR.

It will feature a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor and it will be capable of recording 4K videos at a frame rate of 24P. In addition to that, users will be able to use EF lenses which mean that there won’t be an need of buying different type of lenses such as the one with the Canon C-series cameras.

This new prototype will give an even higher benchmark than what the Canon 5D Mark II did. Canon will soon market this camera under its “EOS Movie” campaign which aims to further market their DSLR which are capable of bringing industry standard images.

Apple’s Streaming iOS Game Service to Launch with Big Fish

Apple’s iTunes subscription service initially launched to a whole host of backlash this past February. Things have cooled down so they’re introducing the same model for games.

The subscription service for games will initially launch with publisher Big Fish. For $4.99 a month (it will jump $2 in price early next year) you’ll be able to play all of their iOS games. It’s not entirely clear if the service will stream the games each time you want to play, but one thing is for sure and that is you’ll need an Internet connection to do so. There is a strong chance you’ll download the game and have to connect to the Web for authentication purposes. Ideally they’d follow a Spotify or Rhapsody model, which requires you to reconnect every thirty days to continue playing downloaded content. At least that’s the way we’d do it for those that are traveling and don’t always have access to a WiFi connection.

Big Fish still hasn’t made an official announcement, but they did speak directly with Bloomberg news, so the service or model is legit. To access the games, or service, you’ll need to download an app, which is only available in iTunes app store, though they say there will be an Android version very soon.

Big Thodio iBox

Portable speakers are a dime a dozen. Sure, many of them sound great, but how many of them look good as well? And hence why we’re so attracted to the new iBox (remember the original?). We haven’t had an opportunity to get our mitts on one, but if it sounds as good as it looks we’re in for a serious audio treat.

Hardware wise you’re looking at dual 5-inch coaxial kevlar speakers with softdome tweeters, two 70 watt RMS amps (the original used 25 watt amps), an integrated rechargeable battery which is good for up to 12 hours of playback, Bluetooth connectivity for wireless playback, an 30-pin dock for all things iOS (except the iPad), battery indicator lights, 3.5mm input jack and distortion indicator lights hidden behind the speakers.

You can choose from a variety of wood finishes: teak, zebrawood, purpleheart, oak and unspecified custom finishes. That said, it ain’t light, weighing in at 14.5 pounds and measuring 34 x 22 x 23cm.

Much like the original, the new iBox ain’t cheap; it starts at $585. And that doesn’t even include Bluetooth connectivity or the iPod dock. You can tack on $100 and $170 respectively for those.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will blow you away

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has got a lot in store for the game lovers. Though it may appear slightly slower than its predecessor “Uncharted 2”, but it is actually a powerhouse.

USP of the Game

The players are going to love the second half of the game wherein you infiltrate a ship harbor which makes way through a cruise ship. The real USP of the game is the story and the script plus the dialogue is funny. The voice quality is so fine and is delivered by the finest voice-over acting of 2011.

Different Aspects of the Game

Another aspect that makes the game so special is the fact that; you can actually hear your character conversing with other characters even while you are passing by the jungles, caves and deserts; it looks so natural. There are 3 aspects about the game which makes it so entertaining. At the first place, it has interesting movie scenes to watch. It has got puzzles to solve to open secret doors and one can enjoy shooting, punching the bad guys.

The difficulty levels starts in the last third as the first two-thirds are pretty easy and can easily be played by a casual player. And you can play it on different gaming gadgets like Playstation.

China creates supercomputer with its own microprocessor

Previously, China stunned the world when it announced Tianhe-1A, the world fastest supercomputer which beat the US ‘Jaguar’ supercomputer by almost a mighty 0.8 petaflops or 800 trillion floating point calculations per second. Now, the communist country announced a new supercomputer which didn’t beat the Tianhe-1A but is nonetheless significant. This new supercomputer is called Sunway BlueLight MPP supercomputer.

What is interesting about Sunway is that none of the microprocessor in it is done by major companies such as Intel or AMD but rather its own microprocessors developed by the Chinese themselves. To compare, the Tianhe-1A uses a combination of Intel Xeon CPU and NVIDIA GPU. With this, it means that the Chinese are one step closer to compete with major markets and potentially be a competitor to the giants Intel and AMD.

The rate on which China is catching up technologically is alarmingly fast. It took 20 years for the microprocessors in the US to be what they are today but experts predict that the same will not be said with China. The microprocessors will be available not only for supercomputers but also for normal usage such as on a desktop or laptop. Should it be available en masse, expect a lot of computers to run on these microprocessors as well. Source : http://www.newgadget.org

Best Buy cuts off $50 from price of Nook Color

With the Kindle Fire released, we’d bound to see the prices of its competing devices drop to become as competitive as the Kindle Fire. Some of the devices we had anticipated the price would stumble would be the Nook Color. Our dreams did come true and Nook Color had a $50 slash but shockingly it wasn’t done by Barnes & Noble, the company behind the Nook but by Best Buy instead.

With the cut, the Nook Color now stands at a price of $199.99 instead of the original price of $249.99 making it pretty much the same price as the Kindle Fire. However, this deal is only limited to Best Buy so far but we are expecting B&N to do the same and issue the cut on their website as well. Suffice to say that it is the only way that they can stay competitive in the business as the Kindle is a device not to be reckoned with in terms of popularity.

The cut would further reduce the profit received from a Nook Color by Barnes & Noble. In fact, they may make a loss out of the each device sold similar to what Amazon is experiencing with its Kindle Fire as well. Nevertheless, the reduction in price would definitely cause an increase in demand and in the end that is all that matters.
