WebOS is Back

Hewlett Packard’s CEO Meg Whitman has announced HP’s own operating system WebOS will be open source.

From the Company Sources

Whitman believes by releasing the operating system’s code openly, improvements can be made by coders throughout the world. Whitman has also said that by making the WebOS open source we are trying to harness the power of community. According to her once WebOS reaches its true potential it can be an alternative to other operating systems.

WebOS – Getting New Life

Previously HP had announced that they will come up with their own operating system WebOS and will start using it in smartphones and tablets. However they had ceased all plans and had taken a back seat. Whitman has said even though there was a slight setback, HP is going to develop all of their gadgets based on WebOS. HP’s CEO has said that public will start seeing WebOS tablets in 2013.

Whitman has been commended by all, for her leadership in one of the biggest companies in the world. When Whitman was hired HP’s condition was somewhat fragile, yet now with Whitman HP has beaten Wall Street estimates.

With the help of the WebOS, Whitman is planning to compete with other major organizations and further prosper HP.

HP to sell new batches of WebOS powered HP TouchPad, starts at $99

The first fire sale of the HP TouchPad was definitely beyond expectation of any parties involved. The demand was overwhelming and it only took a short while before the product is all sold out. It all happened for a very good reason as well.

The 9.7-inch tablet was a hit as HP announced that the 16GB and 32GB variant of the device will be sold at a price of $99 and $149 respectively. Those that require an external wireless keyboard need to pay up another $79.

Demands for the HP TouchPad have been increasing ever since especially since there are already hacks on which the device could be run on Android which is done by CyanogenMod 7. With its cheap price, it is to no wonder that the device was sold out in such a short period of time.

However, those that still wish to get their hands on one of these can do so on December 11, 6.00 p.m Central Time. HP will be selling the product at its HP eBay store. However, the company will be limiting its sales to only 2 devices per customers so that everyone would get a fair share of the device. Best of luck!

HP deciding fate of webOS today?

HP is reportedly deciding today whether to keep their webOS operating system or to sell it off after HP confirmed that it would cease production of both the HP TouchPad and their smartphone range.

According to PreCentral HP's CEO Meg Whitman has apparently called for a general meeting of all the senior-staff in the company today to come to a final decision concerning the OS.

This will be the second decisive decision made by the companies CEO Meg Whitman after she made the bold move of regaining control of HP's PC division following speculation as to whether the company would permanently move into software.

The company had originally planned to sell of both the mobile and OS divisions of the company in an effort to try and gain back some of the money spent on buying Palm, however this is now the issue under discussion after the HP TouchPad experienced huge sales when it was drastically dropped in price.
