High Speed Video Cameras From Casio

A high speed video camera is generally used for recording fast moving objects, in the form of images, onto a storage media. These can later be played back in slow-motion. While earlier high speed cameras used film to record these, the high speed video cameras available today use either a charge-coupled device or a CMOS image sensor, which can record over 1000 frames per second into DRAM. Today, we bring you reviews of the two best high speed video cameras from the giants in the field, Casio.

Casio Exilim EX-FH20

The Casio Exilim EX-FH20 is a great megazoom camera with high speed recording capabilities. Coming with a comfortable and stylish design, this also includes nice new features you will enjoy playing with. This basic point-and-shoot camera has one great advantage to it – it can shoot at 40 frames per seconds and 1,000 fps video capture too.

The camera is not too easy to operate and its picture quality leaves a lot to be desired, even though it is of 9MP resolution. It feels good to hold and operate though, what with a tight handgrip, large thumbrest, big screen and nicely positioned controls. The FH20 offers you eight color filters and several saturation, sharpness and contrast options to choose from.

You can set the FH20 to automatically stores all your shots, if you so wish. The only problem is that while doing so, you just may end up filling all the available memory, and also burn up a lot of battery charge. For this reason, it would be advisable to keep spare batteries with you at all times.

The Casio FH20 performs as well as it promises. It can capture 7MP images at up to 40fps. Considering the usual speed of megazooms, this one is indeed much faster and the start-up time to taking the first shot is just over 3 seconds. The time between shots is lesser than 2 seconds, which is a pretty good score.

Photo quality is where this one is lagging behind. The problem is with accuracy and white balance. The pictures also tend to have a lot of noise in them, due to which it is better to use this camera for smaller prints or for Website use.

The Casio EX-FC100 is one camera that works really well with high-speed video and continuous-shot still photography. Stylish-looking and quite easy to hold and use, this is one of those very few small devices that stand out as a high¬-speed camera and works equally well with both still images and videos. Available for $349, however, this camera is still too expensive if you want a truly high-end camera.

On the positive side, the FC100 offers you a great LCD screen, stunning 9.1MP resolution and a 5X optical zoom lens. Image quality is great in many cases. But it also lacks in some areas. Generally, this camera shoots better images outdoors than indoors.

In low-light conditions, the FC100 is your average point-and-shoot camera. There is no long-shutter mode for night-time shooting, which is quite disappointing. It does not give as great close-ups as one would like either. The anti-shake mode is good though, and this feature helps you avoid blurry photographs.

The best thing about the FC100 is high¬-speed photography and videos. The high-speed video mode is especially good.

Panasonic GF3

Only several days have passed since Sony launched their NEX-C3, Panasonic answer with their new Lumix. This does not affect the title of the UCIL from Sony, but takes the crown for the Lumix family. The device dimensions are 108 x 67 x 32.5 mm and the body’s weight with battery and card reaches 264 g.

In direct comparison with Sony NEX-C3, it is shorter by 2 mm and high with 7 mm. Panasonic insisted to provide an integrated flash directly above the lens mount. The screen of 3″ on the back is touch sensitive as in the case of Panasonic GF2, thus justifying the reduced number of buttons.

12 MP sensor of its predecessor has been preserved for Panasonic Lumix GF3, but now allows the 3.8 fps at full resolution. Filming 1080i now has focus by pursuing the subject. Its minimum ISO value is increased to 160 and is used to focus a new system based on the contrast difference.

Panasonic GF3 boasts with the subject focus in only 0.1s when using the 14-140 mm objective. The new member of the Micro Four Thirds devices, will be available on the market in July. Price for the one with fixed 14 mm objective will be $700. In August, those interested can purchase Panasonic GF3 with 14-42 mm objective for $600.

EXR sensor with DSLR class for compact range - Fujifilm X10

Fujifilm X10, the accessible version of the X100 model represents a compromise solution between the point-and-shoot models from the compact range and the high-end versions represented by very powerful DSLR models, but expensive and bulky.

Putting quality first, X10 uses a EXR image sensor with voice, directly borrowed from the world of DSLR models. Measuring 2/3 inch, the sensor with CMOS Exmor technology is the largest model in the EXR range achieved so far that offers a 12MP resolution and can get pictures using ISO 3200 or even ISO 12800 if we opt for a low resolution.

The objective supports 4X optical zoom and is optimized to maximize the amount of light sent to the image sensor, enabling to obtain high quality pictures in any situation. The aperture range from F2.0 for close obtained photos.

Fujifilm X10 can get pictures in burst of 7 frames per second in native resolution, or even 10 fps if you reduce the image resolution by half. Video capture function supports 1080p resolution and can be used including the panoramic pictures, obtained rotating the device.

Among the manual settings available include a dedicated button for exposure control and additional buttons on the back side. We can manually adjust ISO values, dynamic range, noise and film simulation, and among the image compression options we also have available the RAW mode.

Despite its small size, Fujifilm X10 integrates an optical viewfinder, sitting next to the LCD screen and on top we have a port for the external flash.

Fujifilm X10 will be available starting from November for an estimated price of about half of the X100 model, currently marketed for the amount of $1,200.

Sony releases

24 megapixels is a lot regardless for any type of consumer-grade camera but Sony decided to put that much capability to its new NEX-7 camera which sports a 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor. The NEX-7 is an upgrade to Sony’s mirrorless NEX-5 and NEX-3 which also has interchangeable lenses. In fact, NEX-7 is a bit bigger as compared with the NEX-5 and NEX-3.

The NEX-7 is marketed to those wanting SLR quality photos but without the big, bulky size of an SLR camera as well as to enthusiasts. In fact, one of its key features includes a 1080p60 video recording capability which allows its users to take full HD video at a whopping 60 frames per seconds (imagine the size of these videos!).

ISO sensitivity can be pushed as far as 16000 and as low as 100 much like any digital camera. In addition to that, it also has an electronic first-curtain shutter which reduces the response time from 0.1s to 0.02s thus reduces shutter lags significantly.

Those already have Sony Alpha lenses need not fret as they can be used with the NEX-7 with the purchase of LA-EA2 mount. This allows them to use any of the lenses that they have with autofocus capability as well.

Iphone 5 to Upgrade Camera and Lens

Taiwanese supplier to supply LED flashes to Apple for iPhone 5

Apple has gone in for a major shift of its camera and flash features from its regular suppliers to a new Taiwanese supplier. The news came amidst confirmations that Apple iPhone 5 is set to have a disjointed camera and flash, one on either side of the gadget. The company is said to have contacted a firm in Taiwan for LED flashes. This can only mean that the new phone is going to have a remodeled and upgraded camera. Speculations are on that Apple has built over the loopholes in iPhone 4 for its new release. As per sources, production of the phone will probably begin in July.

Apple changes its major camera elements suppliers

The new concept of separating camera and the lens is a move to improve picture quality and to reduce the “red-eye” effect. Apple needed to make changes in its sensor in order to improve its camera function. It is in this regard that it has shifted the order from Philips to a Taiwanese firm. In iPhone 5, it is likely that an eight-megapixel CMOS sensor will be used. The supplier for this element is Omni vision. The decision to use Omni Vision instead of Sony is also a major shift.

Must have for DSLR users

DSLR users today are plentiful as the cost of these devices has dropped tremendously. In addition to that, even the manufacturers today cater to roughly three types of users which are the entry-level users, mid-experience users and professionals. There are a few must-have accessories on which will be discussed here for all types of users

Filters

Filters are a must have for any DSLR users simply because they protect the camera’s lens. In addition to that, UV coated filters will protect the eyes as well. Suffice to say, it is a lot cheaper to replace a broken filter rather than a broken lens.

Spare Battery

This is simply a must for all users especially those that are using their cameras for a whole day usage. It is better to keep one in case of the one that is being used finished rather than having an unusable camera. Original ones may cost a plentiful but there are also third-party manufacturers which would be around a third of the price of the original.

White Balance Lens Cap

It is important to keep the white balance settings correct so that the user will get the best colors possible at that particular place. There are two ways of doing it: getting an 18% grey card or a white balance lens cap. Some of these ranges from $45-$65 but it is definitely a good investment and doubles as a lens cap as well.

Canon has prototype DSLR that can shoot 4K videos

Sure, a lot of people have heard about Full HD videos but have you heard about 4K videos? 4K is a format unfamiliar to many simply because there are little to no playback devices capable of rendering a 4K video due to its high resolution. However, that does not stop Canon to create a DSLR with 4K recording capability.

Currently, the DSLR is still in its prototype which means that the time on which it will be released is still unknown but based on the press release by Canon, we managed to get some technical specifications of the new DSLR.

It will feature a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor and it will be capable of recording 4K videos at a frame rate of 24P. In addition to that, users will be able to use EF lenses which mean that there won’t be an need of buying different type of lenses such as the one with the Canon C-series cameras.

This new prototype will give an even higher benchmark than what the Canon 5D Mark II did. Canon will soon market this camera under its “EOS Movie” campaign which aims to further market their DSLR which are capable of bringing industry standard images.

Two Digital Camcorders from Canon

In an event, Canon unveiled two smashing digital camcorders which are going to do wonders in the arena of professional video film-making. With these new camcorder gadgets, Canon has entered the world of professional film-making.

4K EF Cinema

Aside the two camcorders, Canon have also introduced 7 fresh 4K EF Cinema Lenses involving 3 latest models equipped with fixed FL (Focal Length) as well as four zoom lenses. The all new two camcorders, the C300 and the C300 PL support 8.29 megapixels and are equipped with CMOS sensor which is 35mm in length. Both the models are equally efficient as the former one comes with an EF mount making it compatible with all the current Canon’s models which has EF lens while the latter one is compatible with industry standard PL lenses.

The Highlighted Features

What makes both the camcorders special is the fact that; they have been designed in a way that makes shooting from vantage points possible which is otherwise difficult with large cinemas cameras. They have a compact body which makes them portable and can easily be fitted with a handle, grip, and monitor unit for external recording. Also, with the use of the WFT-E6B, it is possible to control the camera from a smartphone or a tablet. WFT-E6B transmits the files wirelessly over a network.

600D or 60D?

Canon has a lot of cameras that have video recording capability. In fact, it’s Canon EOS 5D Mark II is considered the benchmark for all video DSLR as it is simply the best in the market. However, we shall be focusing on two of its video DSLR which comes with a tilt LCD: the EOS 600D and 60D.

The two is almost similar with each other with the 60D being the mid-range camera while the 600D is an entry-level camera. Both camera sports the same 18.0MP sensor but one visible difference between the two is that the Canon 60D comes with an LCD screen at the top much like the higher end DSLRs while the 600D does not have it.

In addition to that, in terms of continuous burst, the 60D comes with 5.3 fps while the 600D has 3.7 fps. Both DSLR has the same ISO ranging from ISO 100 to 6400 but in terms of shutter speed, 60D is slightly faster with the fastest being 1/8000 seconds while the 600D is 1/4000 seconds. The weight of the 600D on the other hand is approximately 200g lighter than the 60D at 570g while the 60D stands at 755g.

It could be said that if one wants to get a video DSLR at a lower price, then the 600D is a good buy as it cost almost $200 cheaper than the 60D. However, for a more powerful camera with a bit more functionality, then the 60D is better. Either way, users will definitely be satisfied with any.

Lady Blanche

If you think regular iPhones are expensive then your jaw will drop at these figures. The new white iPhone costs the same amount as the black one ($399-$699), but if you want a bit more bling on your phone then you can purchase the Lady Blanche. Designed by Gresso, the Lady Blanche is a gorgeous white iPhone that would please any woman. Unfortunately it costs about $30,000.

With only about 150 of these made, the Lady Blanche is a normal iPhone with an ‘iced’ exterior. The backside is equipped with three Swiss clocks with pearl dials. Each clock tells the time in a different part of the world. Also, there are 3 different little displays on the back, each holding diamonds that glitter like fire.

Unfortunately many of you may think that $30k for a phone is a bit out of your price range, thankfully they offered a much more reasonable solution: Swarovski crystal replacing the diamonds. The crystal drops the price down to only $7k and makes this a much more reasonable investment.

Rather than buying a car, you can impress your lady friend with this glittery combination of jewelry and technology!

The Samsung NX200 Camera with Interchangeable Lens

Cameras are always the rage among consumers and no matter how good mobile phones and smartphones get, at capturing stills and video, the good old camera is still one step higher than them. In this post, we bring you a detailed review of the latest Samsung NX200 camera, which falls in the ILC (interchangeable lens category). This mirrorless model is expected to hit the market very soon.

Features

The NX200 has stylish, sleek, looks and is quite attractive at first glance. The camera housing is smooth and shiny and feels good to hold. However, the NX lens mount has a strange design – it goes beyond the front face by almost half an inch. This seems a bit funny, as the latest cameras come with a very sleek design.
The camera sadly does not include a built-in flash, but you can find an external strobe in the box. At the back of the NX200 is a 3” AMOLED VGA display screen. This gives you great resolution, color and sharp details. The white balance, though, may not be as accurate as you think. A dedicated record button activates the camera’s 1080p video capture capability.
The camera also includes stereo mics, mini HDMI, micro USB ports and support for external SD card.

General Performance

The Samsung NX200 is rather slow regarding speed. While you can set a pre-focus, it does become inconvenient when you want to capture fast-moving objects. There is this lag even while capturing video.
Apart from this problem, the camera is good enough, offering a good resolution and even better battery life. The best feature of the Samsung NX200 undoubtedly has to be its powerful battery.

Image Quality

The camera uses an APS-C sensor, which means capturing pictures in low-light conditions is a breeze. There is practically no noise at high ISO settings either, which is a definite plus. Though the camera offers good color and exposure, the general picture sometimes tended to look softer than what was actually there.

User Interface

The UI of the Samsung NX200 is pretty easy to setup and use. The camera gives you a variety of modes to choose from and lets you control these functions with ease. The Magic Mode offers you several frames and filters, which you can use to enhance your picture. There are also some basic GPS options open to you.

The Verdict

Mirrorless ILC cameras are just coming into the market and so, they will take time to evolve and grow. The brands that are already there offer good features at a reasonable price range. This concept is slowly getting more and more popular and there may come a day when these compact cameras with interchangeable lenses may become the favorite of professional photographers.
The Samsung NX200, priced at $800, may be a tad bit too expensive, considering its features. Sony’s line of mirrorless cameras starts at about $549, which is way below the former. Of course, Sony does not have video capabilities like the Samsung, but we wonder if you would want to spend so much extra for one extra feature.

Getting Twin Lens Reflex (TLR camera)

Twin lens reflex (TLR) camera has been available for more than a century but it was until the Rolleiflex was released in the end of 1920 that the camera becomes a hit until the 1960’s when the rangefinder camera took over the market.

For the cheapest yet antique version of the TLR, one can get a Lubitel camera for roughly $70. Lubitel made TLR are from Russia and dates back to as old as the 1950s. Lomo has also released a newer version of the Lubitel called the Lubitel 166+ but that would cost at least $300.

Those that are up for it could definitely get a hold of a Rolleiflex or a Rolleicord which are a bit more expensive. A working Rolleiflex would be at least $200 with the best ones costing thousands but nevertheless, expect the best quality possible with these models of TLRs.

If you are really in a budget but would like to give this camera a try, you could spend around $30 for a Recesky DIY TLR Camera but it would take time for you to assemble it properly. Nevertheless, it is a definitely as close as you can get on a budget for a TLR camera. Whatever camera it may be, having these would be nice as it will be a new experience of taking photos.

Go extreme with Go Pro camera

Extreme sports require the same degree of camera so that all photos or videos can be taken with ease. Most often than not, the usual type of cameras would not be suitable for these types of activities due to the lack of durability. That is why Go Pro has released its HD Hero camera which is a very powerful and durable camera for almost all purposes.

It comes as a standalone version or various editions on which there are additional accessories given to suit the edition needed. For example, the HD Hero 2 Surf Edition comes with the HD Hero 2 camera, a waterproof housing, a couple of surfboard mounts, a Floaty backdoor and a few other accessories. Some other editions that are available include Motorsports and Outdoor edition at a price of $299.99 each.

The HD Hero 2 camera is has an 11 megapixel sensor which is capable of shooting videos up to full HD at 30 fps. The fastest rate on which it can go is at 120 fps on a WVGA resolution which is nonetheless a very impressive feat for a camera which costs only a fraction of what other professional cameras costs.

Go Pro HD Hero 2 camera is highly recommended for those that likes extreme sport or just wishes to capture some footage on which normal cameras would not work. At its budget price, a lot of people can afford it with ease.
