Grant Paul and Ryan Petrich are the two hackers who have recently introduced a Siri port which brings the entire voice assistant’s functionality to any jailbroken iOS5 gadget.

Unique Feature

Unlike other Siri ports; what makes this Siri port unique is the fact that it is legal. Actually, the previous attempts failed as obtaining files was a cumbersome task and it also involved copyright issues; however the Spire uses a unique method to obtain files necessary for Siri which relieves it from the copyright issues.





Pros and Cons

But, like everything in this world has its own share of pros and cons, likewise Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, which means you will have to use a proxy. Till the time there is no solution for jailbroken iPhone 4S, Siri port is a matter of using the phone’s own authentication tokens. Also, Paul believes once the iPhone 4S is jailbroken, no proxy server would be required.

Those of you who wish to have Spire can download it from Cydia now. Also, Spire uses about 100MB of data which means a Wi-Fi connection is a must have.

iOS 5 Beta Version Released For Your Iphone

Apple has recently released a beta version of iOS 5. ‘iOS 5′ will run on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod Touch (3rd and 4th generation). The operating system that was first released in 2007, hopes to attract customers by introducing new features in the 5th edition. Apple claims that they have added 200 new features in the new operating system and are planning to release the full iOS 5 in fall of 2011. It is very unlikely that a person will use all the new features, but here is a list of top 3 features that you will use for sure.

Notification Center

Notifications such as messages, e-mails, reminders, friend requests, etc will now be displayed at the top of the screen and can be displayed by swiping down the notification area. The notification will also appear when the phone is locked and will require only swipe down process to view it. Whenever a new notification appears, it will appear on the top of the screen and will also disappear automatically such that the users are not interrupted in their current task.


Wi-Fi Synchronization




Now you don’t need a computer to sync your iPad, iPhone or iTouch. You can directly connect to the internet through Wi-Fi and start using the gadget. This synchronization feature is an attempt to replace PCs and laptops to iPads. Honestly, this is actually quite possible as iPad does have all the necessary requirements those fulfilled by PCs and Laptops.

The Kiano 4 is a sliding keyboard for the iPhone. It has a built-in battery that has about 5 hours of typing and 30 hours of standby. It uses standard Bluetooth connectivity to operate. The Kiano online store has it in both black or white color. It’s listed price is $99 US.


Seems like a cool device for people who want the tactile feel of the keyboard. But I’m not sure how many people are willing to accept 78 grams of additional weight to carry around making their phone a bit bulkier.

Nevertheless, a pretty cool accessory for Apple iPhone 4 lovers out there!

8GB iPhone 4 to be released

Reuters had recently released an exclusive stating that there are high chances that an 8GB version of the iPhone 4 will be released in a few weeks. This comes to a surprise to many because previously, iPhone 4 was available only in 16GB and 32GB respectively.

The 8GB iPhone 4 will be a lot cheaper than the other two versions of iPhones as Apple struggles to gain market that it had once dominated but recently lost to two operating systems: Android and Windows Phone 7. As of date, there is no definite answer for the new price of the iPhone although experts speculate that the price will not go below the $200 line.




Many more speculate that the iPhone 5 will be announced on September although there are no clear dates as to when it would be. The new iPhone 5 will definitely be worth the wait and reports stated that Apple had urged its factories to speed up the production of 45 million units of the new iPhone. With such number of units, there is no telling whether there will still be inadequate supply of the iPhone during its first week of release as this had happened with the release of previous versions of the iPhone.

Taiwanese supplier to supply LED flashes to Apple for iPhone 5

Apple has gone in for a major shift of its camera and flash features from its regular suppliers to a new Taiwanese supplier. The news came amidst confirmations that Apple iPhone 5 is set to have a disjointed camera and flash, one on either side of the gadget. The company is said to have contacted a firm in Taiwan for LED flashes. This can only mean that the new phone is going to have a remodeled and upgraded camera. Speculations are on that Apple has built over the loopholes in iPhone 4 for its new release. As per sources, production of the phone will probably begin in July.



Apple changes its major camera elements suppliers



The new concept of separating camera and the lens is a move to improve picture quality and to reduce the “red-eye” effect. Apple needed to make changes in its sensor in order to improve its camera function. It is in this regard that it has shifted the order from Philips to a Taiwanese firm. In iPhone 5, it is likely that an eight-megapixel CMOS sensor will be used. The supplier for this element is Omni vision. The decision to use Omni Vision instead of Sony is also a major shift.

VLC Media Player was recently introduced for the Apple iPad and now it’s the turn for iPhone and iPod touch. The application has been submitted and is currently under review, it is expected to be approved very soon.

iPhone users must be waiting anxiously for this application and once this application gets approved by Apple, the iPhone and iPod Touch users will be able to download and install it.

I am sure that some of you must be wondering ‘why would someone need VLC Media Player when he has got QuickTime Player’. VLC Media Player will be supporting more audio video formats as compared to QuickTime.




This version of VLC Player will be compatible with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, it will also be compatible with the same generation iPod Touch. There were a few bugs in the iPad version and it is believed that they are fixed in this version.

It is basically the re-launch of D3 or more of D2 with the same hardware, same screen and more or less same functionality. Cowon C2 comes in an encased metal chassis and with a 2.6 inch resistive touch screen. The screen of the media player has a resolution of 320X240 pixels.

Supporting All Video and Audio Features

The player supports all kinds of audio and video formats, JPEG images and comes with a variety of documents reader. The battery of the player supports 55 hours of audio and 10 hours of video. It comes with a 4GB built in memory which can be expanded to 32GB using a MicroSD card. The overall size of the player is 78.7X53X12.8 mm and the weight is 84gms.



Design and Other Features

The Cowon player has a sleek design with all the important keys right at the side and top of the media player of the gadget. There has been no change in the operating system and the software of the media player. The homebrew software which was used in the earlier editions is still being used in this model also. The device has an enhanced sound and video quality. Priced at $135, Cowon C2 is certainly available at bargaining price because of its enhanced features.

Once again, Apple has switched to Samsung for the production of iPad 2 and iPhone 4S processors. While the production line of Samsung which is $3.6bn has already reached its full capacity point; the rest of the production line is busy producing NAND flash memory chips.

Growing Friendship: Apple and Samsung

This is not the first time that the two brands have come up together, earlier also they have worked on mobile processors and in fact, Samsung co-designed the Apple A4 single-core chip which is found in the first-gen iPad and the iPhone 4 gadgets. Every month, the workforce of 1,100 workers makes 40,000 silicon wafers and the workforce is recruited just recently. Also, supply to Apple began in the first quarter of 2011 only.



Apple’s Efforts

No matter, Apple is putting in its best efforts to extricate itself in the production line, but still it is clear that Apple is interdependent on Samsung. Both the firms are midway through a lengthy legal campaign.

Earlier this year, Apple has negotiated with chip provider TSMC in the hope that it would reduce the cost it spends on outsourcing parts. However, it did not work out and left Apple with no choice but to maintain relations with Korean foe.

One of the most significant developments in the appearance of the iPhone 5 is the news that 9to5mac have discovered evidence of the iPhone 5 existing in the coding of the new iOS 5.1 beta release.

Apple iPhone 5 to have 4-inch display?

While it's been reported below that the iPhone 5 is having displays built by Toshiba, there has been a new rumour from AppleInsider which suggests that in face Hitachi and Sony are making a 4-inch display, reportedly for a unspecified Apple device. Could this be the iPhone 5 or a brand-new iPod Touch? There's no confirmation either way but it certainly points towards Apple finally changing their screen size across the board.

Nikkei Business Daily announced last year that Toshiba was set to build a new factory in Ishikawa tasked with producing high-res LCD panels for Apple’s upcoming ranges of iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

The new Japanese based factory, set to cost 100 billion Yen (£757 million) and be constructed during 2011, will double Toshiba’s current monthly production capacity of 8.5 million units.

Part funded by Apple, the new factory will begin production this year with the Apple iPhone 5 expected to be one of the first devices catered for.


Apple iPhone 5: new design

The Wall Street Journal reported that its 'in-the-know' contact believes the iPhone 5 will feature a “different form factor”, adopting a brand new design following the antennagate issues that resulted in signal issues and dropped calls.

Since then Engadget has spoken to multiple sources who claim that a complete redesign of the handset body is on the cards and that the device is already being tested by staff at Apple HQ.

However, leaked designs and mold engineering images tell a different story, suggesting that the only aesthetic change for the iPhone 5 will be a larger display and smaller bezel.

Also on the cards for the iPhone 5 is an all-metal back, similar to that found on the original iPhone, reportedly in a bid to avoid the embarrassing antenna issues experienced on the iPhone 4.

The glass posterior of the iPhone 4 was also prone to unsightly cracks if treated roughly, and was rumoured to be the cause of the delay of the white model - a headache all round for Apple.

An Apple patent also points to the iPhone using smaller conductive nodes beneath the screen, allowing for the overall device to be slimmer. Tipped to also feature for the iPad 2, the new method could also use less power, giving you longer battery life from each charge of your iPhone 5.

Latest: The Wall Street Journal have once again claimed that the iPhone 5 will be “thinner and lighter” than previous models whilst sporting a widely expected 8-megapixel camera and September release date.

Quoting sources at component suppliers, WSJ suggest that in the midst of a legal battle with the Korean tech giant Apple’s next-generation smartphone will do away with the current breed of Samsung CPUs instead opting for a Qualcomm produced processor.


Apple iPhone 5: A5 processor and Qualcomm chips

The Wall Street Journal was again amongst the first to report that “people familiar with the matter” had confirmed the iPhone was to receive an overhauled chipset in order to contend with a rise in competitive high-end smartphones running versions of the Google Android operating system.

Apple is tipped to ditch the 1GHz A4 processor found inside the iPhone 4 for the dual-core A5 CPU.

Apple used the same A4 chip in its iPhone 4 as in its original iPad, so repeating this trick with the A5 chip like they have for the iPad 2, would see the iPhone 5 in line with upcoming dual-core processor powerhouses like the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation.

On the wireless chipset providers front, Infineon may make way for Qualcomm, likely in a bid to avoid connectivity issues previously faced with the iPhone 4.


Apple iPhone 5: Near Field Communication (NFC)

The year so far has seen a slew of handsets with NFC such as the Galaxy Nexus S or the range of Nokia phones that have featured NFC, with these handsets proving the success of the technology analysts predict that the proportion of NFC phones will rise to 50 per cent by 2012.

The same analysts believes this will be because major manufacturers like Apple are planning to make a NFC-enabled iPhone 5.

Successfully trialed by 02 in 2008, the appearance of NFC in Google’s Android 2.3 update means it is likely to be on the radar for Apple as well.

Benjamin Vigier, Apple’s new Mobile Commerce Manager joined the Apple ranks last year with his CV showing a lot of experience in the NFC field, having helped Starbucks create a bardcode-based way of paying for your morning coffee and even setting up Paypal Mobile.

Apple has already filed a string of patents regarding NFC appearing on the iPhone, and Vigier’s appointment could well mean the iPhone 5 will see some of the action.

Its arrival would essentially mean turning your iPhone into a virtual credit card, allowing you to pay for everything from cake to clothes by waving your smartphone across a dedicated reader.



Apple iPhone 5: integrated SIM

To make purchasing your iPhone direct from Apple’s online or highstreet stores a much easier process, reports suggest that the iPhone 5 will include an integrated SIM to do just that.

Allowing Apple to assign networks to individual handsets at customer’s request, the integrated chip rumoured to feature on the next handset will carry subscriber identification information and ultimately see the end of the little plastic cards currently issued directly from network service providers.

With users able to pick a network provider at the point of sale, Apple could simply program the new device to that company’s service eliminating the need for shoppers to wait for networks to activate the handset or for the arrival of the corresponding SIM.
