PlayStation 4 will enter the production line later this year

Sony will start producing the next generation of consoles later this year and the first devices will appear on the market in 2012, said some sources from the publication DigiTimes.

The devices will be based on the same technology of movements control as Kinect and will be manufactured by Foxconn and Pegatron Technology. Initially, Sony executives have estimated that the PlayStation 3 will have a life expectancy of 10 years, but recently returned to the figures, and saying that will have a life cycle of 8 years.

Five years have passed since the launch of the PlayStation 3 in October 2006, in the same year as Nintendo launch the Wii console.

But unlike Sony, Nintendo has already announced that the next console generation, Wii U, will hit the market in 2012. Until then, we will keep you updated with the latest news about Wii U. If they have proposed to keep up with the competition, the Japanese will have to limit the lifetime of the PS3 to six years and launch the next console generation next year.

According to figures released by Sony in April, PlayStation 3 has sold a total of 50 million units. In April, the PlayStation network associated with the PS3 console was the target of some hacking attacks, which have kept the site offline for several weeks.

3D review : Battlefield 3

3D technology

You don’t have to spend a fortune on a new PC to run Battlefield 3 in 3D… but it helps. NVIDIA’s new 3D Vision 2 kit is actually relatively cheap at £149 for pair of active shutter glasses and an IR receiver. The glasses are bigger, more comfortable and block out more back ground ambient light. But the deal clincher is hooking the glasses up with a flat panel that supports the new super-bright Lightboost tech.

We used the 27-inch Asus VG278H, which costs £565, has a HD LED display, a 120Hz refresh rate to cope with NVIDIA’s 3D tech and a speedy 2ms response time. It also has a 3D HDMI 1.4 input and a Dual-link DVI input.

We were lucky enough to have an NVIDIA white box system with 6GB, Intel’s flagship core i7 processor and with two GeForce GTX 580 cards hooked up in SLI mode.

3D performance

The legacy of being built in a PC means Battlefield 3 has more settings than you could shake a stick at. That means, you can still play in 3D on a lower specced system by turning down one of the many graphical bells and whistles in the options menu.

As we said, we were lucky to go to war on a brilliant system and gamed in 3D with everything set on ultra. 3D can absolutely kill a system. Jargon aside, in effect you are running the game twice simultaneously when you press the CRTL then T button so it will take out lesser PCs. But we managed to maintain over 48FPS for smooth HD playback and that’s on servers with 64 players running about at the same time. The only time we suffered any staccato playback was a server issue rather than a problem with the hardware.

Obviously the 3D is given an incredible boost by playing with the effects setting on ultra because the added debris, smoke and explosions are rendered with much more dimensional panache. With the best audio we’ve heard in any title this year, the effect can be disorientating – in a good way. We also played with the 3D slider at fill tilt and had no headaches to report after long sessions. We did experience minimal ghosting but that was easily rectified by turning the 3D down and we can vouch that the Lightboost tech is a big winning point for NVIDIA.

Verdict

As a game, Battlefield 3 didn't get five out of five stars in our review. There were too many issues with the weaker single player campaign and too many problems as a console venture. However, as a 3D PC experience it is an unqualified succeess and a five star product.

Now, with an added dimension, we’re saying you haven’t played Battlefield 3 unless you’ve played Battlefield 3 in 3D on a PC

Street Fighter X Tekken allows players to dress as characters of the opposing

Are you looking forward to the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken game from Capcom? Well if you are, and if you’re a fan of character customization, Capcom has revealed that the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken game will allow for full customization of your characters.

This level of customization seems to have been inspired by Tekken’s customization mode, but does not appear to go as deep. Players will be able to customize their character’s hair, skin, costume and accessories. Costumes will also be available as a DLC and will feature costumes that crossover between the franchises.

What this means is that characters will be able to dress up as characters of the opposing franchise, as pictured above where Chun Li is dressed as Panda (and looking cute too, I might add) and Julia is dressed as Chun Li. There are plenty of other crossovers such as Zangief as Kuma, and Cammy as King. It’s a rather novel concept but undoubtedly there are players out there fussy about character looks.

Street Fight X Tekken is expected to be released in March of 2012, and for more screenshots of character customization, you can head on down to Capcom Europe or Capcom Japan.

Nintendo Introducing 3D Movie Capture in Nintendo 3DS

On Friday, October 21, 2011, Nintendo has come up with a new and advanced feature which will enable Nintendo 3DS handheld users to shoot movies in 3D.

A bit Limited Recording time

Although the shooting of the movies would be done for a very limited period of time, say 10 minutes, the feature would definitely attract many users to record what they want. Along with this, the users also get an option to shoot stop-action animations among the different record modes available in the newly introduced gadget, Nintendo Direct.

While displaying the new features in a prerecorded presentation which was telecasted online, the company president Satoru Iwata gave a demo of the multiplayer feature of Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS which is supposed to be launched on December 1st this year in Japan.

Embedded Social Features

The multiplayer feature is done by setting up racing communities which entitles the users to get go-kart parts and race with other individuals. Apart from gaming online, the users of 3DS would also get an expanded online social feature, which would help the users to access other consoles and move the contents. Iwata also hinted at many new games which would be available for the Japan users.

The new version of 3DS would be available in US and Europe from February 22, next year.

PlayStation Vita

In other news from Sony, the PlayStation Vita (formerly identified as the Sony NGP—Next Generation Portable) finally has a price point.

The handheld gaming system, like its console big brother, is one of the most advanced on the market. It will have dual analog thumbsticks, six-axis motion sensors, front and rear facing cameras, an OLED touch screen, a touchpad on the reverse—all tucked into a tiny little device that fits in the palms of your hands.

Internally, the specs will make the device the most powerful portable gaming system around and gamers will rejoice with “hardcore” titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and LittleBigPlanet.

However, the real news now is the pricing. The PlayStation Vita will be available in two models, a 3G version and a WiFi only version. The WiFi only model will run around $250 while its cellular cousin will cost $300. The 3G version will only be available through AT&T (because that worked so well for Apple) and will (most likely) require a contract or an upgrade to an existing contract.

These price points put the Vita within striking distance of Nintendo’s own portable gaming devices (the Nintendo DS and 3DS) and will likely take a good chunk out of the gaming giant’s wallet.
