RIM Released Two new Smartphones based on its New OS- BBX

Research in Motion (RIM) has announced two smartphones lately, both powered by the new OS called BBX which is based on the software by QNX systems. Let’s find out more about the two new smartphones, the Blackberry Bold 9790 and the Curve 9380.

Blackberry Bold 9790

Blackberry Bold 9790: The new Bold is powered by 1 GHz processor, has a 2.4-inch capacitive touchscreen, a microSD slot which can support upto 32GB of data. It also supports NFC and 8GB onboard storage. As far as its keyboard is concerned, it is no different and similar to Blackberry’s signature physical keyboard.

Blackberry Curve 9380

Blackberry Curve 9380: The Curve Blackberry gadget supports a 5 mega-pixel rear-facing camera, has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen along with NFC capabilities. Both the handsets are running Blackberry 7 OS and the amazing part about the OS is, it has in-built support for augmented reality applications, Blackberry Protect which is a free online back-up and remote wipe solution service offered by the company, the premium version of Documents to Go, and above all, Blackberry Balance which can be used effectively in companies by managers to create a firewall between company and personal data. This is amazing!

BlackBerry Bold 9790 Goes on sale in Jakarta

BlackBerry Bold 9790 was introduced a few days ago and while it wasn’t exactly a big deal over in this side of the world, things were a little different in Jakarta, Indonesia. The phone went up for sale today, and thousands of people stood in line to get their hands on the phone. What was supposed to be an orderly event where customers would be dealt with on a first come, first served basis turned into chaos with reports of people fainting and getting injured in the process.

The organizers of the launch had announced earlier this week that the first thousand customers would receive a 50% discount on the phone. Seeing how everybody loves freebies, you can guess how many people turned up for the event. But all hell broke loose when word spread out about the phone supply not being able to meet the demand of the BlackBerry consumers in line.

Fortunately around 300 police and paramilitary officers showed up and the event was shut down for safety reasons. I guess RIM can rest assured that while their grasp on the smartphone market in the US is dwindling, there are folks in other parts of the world who would brave such events to buy their phones.

Enjoy “Android apps” on Blackberry now

Now, Android apps can be enjoyed on Blackberry phones too. As Blackberry does not have enough of its own applications and having Android apps would also lessen the struggle to persuade developers to make Blackberry apps has led to the conclusion that; Blackberry gadgets will now use Android apps.

RIM-Google Combined Initiative

It was stated that RIM would sign a contract with Google’s 250,000 apps and it was later confirmed by RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis. Popular software maker Myriad demonstrated Alien Dalvik software according to which, Android apps can easily run on other platforms. Now, users will see the new features in Blackberry’s forthcoming mobile phones which would entirely be based on a new operating system called QNX.

Get ready to explore new Blackberry OS

According to some sources, someone in Waterloo., Ontario has been running ShopSavvy on various Blackberry gadgets. As per the firm, the 8300, 8600 and 8520 models were found running ShopSavy this year. The best part is; incorporating Android apps would not be difficult since Blackberry OS can support Java Virtual Machines which is pretty amazing. But it is still a major question as whether all QNX phones will Android apps or not.
