LG to Bring Android 4.0 to Optimus

Here is good news, just at the time we were feeling really bad about Google freezing it Android 4.0 rollout to its Samsung Nexus S smartphone. Now, the popular electronics giant, LG, has promised to upgrade its Optimus line of smartphones to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While LG had already stated sometime ago that it would soon bring the update to the Optimus, we now have a concrete release date as well. Users will be able to experience the power of Android 4.0 on their smartphones, in the second quarter of 2012.

LG has further stated that it will start to deliver the rather yummy Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to the LG Optimus LTE, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Prada Phone, the LG Optimus myTouch Q, the LG Optimus Sol and the LG Eclipse. In Q3 2012, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Q2, the LG Optimus EX, the LG Optimus Big and the LG Optimus 3D will also get the same upgrade. Since each region and mobile carrier is different and follows different rules, the dates of release of the upgrade will vary in different countries of the world, LG said.

The company has also stated that it will give more details as it nears the upgrade launch date for each region.

Though we are delighted to hear this news, we also are aware that LG is still lagging behind many other manufacturers that have promised the same upgrade as well, to their respective smartphones and mobile devices. Sony Ericsson has officially announced a March or April 2012 upgrade. Though HTC, Samsung and Motorola are yet to formally announce their release date, we think it might happen somewhere in early 2012.

Well, we are awaiting this release with bated breath. How about you? Do you think Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be as special as it is expected to be?
